Hello,
I'm Paolo from Italy.
This week I have installed Trisquel 7 mini 64 bit on a netbook Asus EEEPC 1001 PX.
All is working well for my use, from Abrowser to Wifi :)
As suggested by Supertramp83 in the italian board I think to write about it in h-node.
My question is : is possible to upgrade Trisquel 7 mini to a "Trisquel 8 min"?
and how?
I also have try to use the new netinstall 8.iso but is possible only to install Mate as desktop, and also I write now from the Trisquel 8 alpha of the 10 april because the june iso don't boot from the usb key
Can you help me please?
Many thanks for your answers
Hi (ciao!) Paolo & Benvenuto a te ;-)
The upgrade from one release to another (7 to 8) is not available yet, Trisquel 8 is still Alpha, nevertheless you can install Lxde (even Lxqt), Xfce,Cinnamon on Trisquel 8 with your Synaptic Package Manager.
https://trisquel.info/fr/forum/lxqt-available-trisquel-8-flidas-alpha-flidas
RazorQt is the second desktop environment by default in the Mate version (by selecting at the login with the Trisquel logo) you will have to add razor-panel to make it more functional.
Cheers
;-)
I had no success with the Netinstall images either..[ideally you would do this with Tasksel]..
Grazie @Mangy Dog
but I have a problem... when I exit from the Mate session in 8 alpha I need username/password to login in the lxqt session... I can't find username/password here in the site/forum
If you're using the live system, just to clarify, LXQt disappears as soon as you shut down/reboot- you have to install the OS to something before you can keep your mini version across changes.
That said, the username is trisquel and the password, if I guess correctly, completely empty (i.e. just press enter without entering anything).

Ciao Paolo,
if you have installed Trisquel 8 Mate on you hard drive and added Lxde or Lxqt or any other Desktop environment with your Synaptic package manager that you wish to use the login password will be the same than the one you have used while installing Mate.
Aptitude is not installed by default but you can install it via a terminal
$ sudo apt-get install aptitude
after it's installed give us the result of
$ aptitude show lxde
or lxqt, xfce (the Desktop you installed..)
yessorry
I mean using the live dvd @Soon.to.be.free
@Mangy Dog
do you think the Trisquel 8 alpha is ready for the daily use?
haha ;-)
Ok if you want lxde or lxqt in Trisquel 8, install it on your hard drive and then install lxde (meta-package) with synaptic, choose at the login (Trisquel logo) which desktop you wish to use ..
Ciao!
do you think the Trisquel 8 alpha is ready for the daily use?
I used it a while ago and found it quite stable, but like you i prefer lxde, xfce and would rather install with Tasksel than have to remove Mate ..but the packages are more recent,You can try ;-)
On live USB systems *with enough persistent storage* (an option with the "Startup Disk Creator" in the "System Settings"), installations of packages stick... if I remember well (can someone confirm/infirm?). It is worth noticing the short life-expectancy of USB keys that are used in that way: such a system should only be used occasionally (typically for rescuing a broken system).
If the default password is not empty, I would try "trisquel".
thanks for all the answers
@Mangy Dog: tasksel is present in 8 alpha?
tasksel is present in 8 alpha?
yes but you don't have the choice of the DE (i tested the Netinstall iso this weekend).
For the moment anyhow, so you still have to install Mate (default) then add Lxde.
or
You can safely wait with Trisquel 7 till the distribution upgrade will be proposed.
;-)
ok ;) I wait comfortably in Trisquel 7 mini on a Eeepc 1001px
