Trisquel 7 RC: Occasionally losing most keystrokes in Nautilus?

Occasionally I lose the ability to rename files and folders in Nautilus
in Trisquel 7 Release Candidate. I can create a new folder (or do any
action that creates a new folder such as grouping files/folders
together) or rename something I've got file system rights to rename. But
when I type in a new name the new name never appears in the highlighted
box where the new text is supposed to go.
I can press Escape and get out of renaming mode, which is odd, but
alphanumeric keys don't work in renaming mode. I can search for
something by typing a few keystrokes whilst not renaming anything. If I
create a new folder and Escape out (to cancel the rename) I'm left with
a folder called "Untitled Folder".
I'm trying this on a Trisquel 7 release candidate system with all
updates applied as of the time/date stamp on this post.
I can work around this by killing Nautilus and restarting it. Then
Nautilus works normally for a while.
I don't yet have a way to reliably make Nautilus misbehave.
Can anyone confirm seeing this behavior in Nautilus?
Hi,
I highlighted a file in my Documents folder, then used 'f2' (the 'rename' keyboard shortcut, then typed the new name. After typing the name and hitting 'enter', I'm not sure what had focus; Orca was not speaking. On hitting 'escape', Orca focus seemed to return to the display of the Documents folder's files, with highlight on my renamed file, showing its new name. Is this what you say is not happening?

This last step -- typing in the new name -- is what I cannot do
(sometimes) and where your description of your issue and my issue stop
being similar (as far as I can tell).
For me certain keystrokes work fine -- hitting F2 to begin Nautilus
renaming as you did and hitting Escape to cancel Nautilus renaming --
but all of the alphanumeric keys don't appear to have any effect. I
press the alphanumeric keys to type the new name and I see no change in
the name just as if I weren't typing at all.
So it's weird that /some/ keys fail to register and it's weird that
Nautilus does not do this consistently. This behavior tells me I'm not
facing a focus-stealing program. I've yet to identify a reliable means
of making Nautilus exhibit this weird behavior so I can post about it
and get feedback to confirm that others experience this too.
My renaming had nothing to do with Orca and it was always clear what has
focus -- the renaming operation in Nautilus. I can left-click the mouse
on the end of the highlighted name and make the cursor deselect the name
and place the cursor at the end of the name. But still no new keystrokes
appear to register, and pressing Enter (or Return) fails as well.
Thanks for asking about this but I think you're facing a different issue
than I am.
I do not think Dave is facing any issue. He only tries to understand your problem to potentially help you. And without Orca, he cannot help you (he is visually-impaired)!

Ah, I had no idea about his visual impairment or what Orca does.
Apparently it was not clear to me how Orca was involved here. Thanks for
clarifying that.
