Trisquel doesn't start after entering encryption password (system is librebooted thinkpad x60 tablet)

I'm sure this has been answered in another post but after searching I couldn't find it. I haven't had any problems with this set up until now, yesterday everything was working fine and today it won't start.
It boots to the grub screen, then loads the trisquel loading logo and takes me to the encryption password page, I enter the password and it goes to black.
what normally happens after this is it usually takes 5-7 seconds to boot into the trisquel desktop(thanks SSD), i dont have a login password at the moment.
Any idea why it stays on a black screen and if theres a fix for it? I really don't wanna have to reinstall and lose all my data as I didn't make backups. Not a huge huge loss but a pain in the ass regardless :(
This has actually happened once in the past right after installing trisquel for the first time but it seemed to fix itself!
edit: when pressing the power off key, it shows the normal trisquel power off sequence, thought that might be relevant.
update: sometimes it'll get past the encryption page and flash:
"[20.516945] iwl3945 0000:02:00.0: Firmware file req failed
[20.517031] iwl3945 0000:02:00.0: Firmware file req failed
[20.517091] iwl3945 0000:02:00.0: Firmware Could not read microcode: -2"
against a black screen, it's for the wifi card which is not libreboot compatible. I use a usb wifi card for it and normally it would come to this screen and move on to the login page but now it's sitting on this message and flashes.
Since your X60t is already librebooted (the whitelist is no more), why not purchase one mini-PCIe Atheros card to replace the Intel 3945? Most X60t machines come with 3 antennae, so even AR9380 can be well supported.

You can select recovery boot options (or edit boot entry to avoid
splash/quiet options) and see more details of next process.

Thank you for the help but how do I boot into recovery? Is it a command on the grub screen? Sorry for the noob questions.
