Hearing some compelling reasons to the continuing demose of Linux from Lunduke, could it be a good time to think about moving Trisquel to OpenBSD or another open platform?
Not sure if there is manpower to spare and it would take a while regardless. You may want to check out the Hyperbola project who is attmepting the same thing.

Has been ongoing since the tail end of 2019.
I have always believed that, should the question arise, Trisquel would be rebased on GNU/Hurd.
"The mission of the GNU Hurd project is to create a general-purpose kernel suitable for the GNU operating system, which is viable for everyday use, and gives users and programs as much control over their computing environment as possible."

Unlikely that the hardware support will be good enough any time soon: https://www.gnu.org/software/hurd/microkernel/mach/gnumach/hardware_compatibility_list.html. Only supports x86 (32-bit) and no support for USB or sound.
The page you linked to says: "Last edited 2014-05-12 02:02:13 UTC"
Compare with:
"Some of the real work that needs to be done and which is being discussed and is in progress right now includes:
- user-space driver/modern hardware support
- audio support (this is sponsored by NLnet, thanks!),
- SMP support,
- 64-bit/ x86_64 support (!), as well as porting to non-Intel CPUs."
Sure they are working on those things, but they are far behind. Given the lack of developers (especially those working on drivers) I find it hard to see how Hurd will ever be usable for a desktop user.
