Thinkpad X200, Release 8.0, Flidas 64-bit, Kernel Linux 4.4.0-187-generic x86_64, MATE 1.12.1, 4GB RAM

Even though the screen works at the correct resolution, 1280 x 800 and the brightness set to full, the display looks a bit flat and dull. With windows the display was bright and had depth. i tried changing the refresh rate but it was the same.

Could this be the inverter board ? When the brightness levels are changed I can hear the inverter making a low noise and increasing the brightness raises the frquency of the whine. Window 7 32 bit didn't produce this whine. I think a similar question was asked on the techguy forums but I got no answer.

Before I try to change the inverter board do you have any ideas and/or suggestions to improve the screen with Trisquel settings ?

In my experience most stock X200 displays are just not up to par. I do recommend upgrading to an AFFS display, e.g. the HV121WX4-110 (glossy) or HV121WX4-120 (matte). Both should be around the EUR 50-70 mark. This works wonders.

This is good information, thanks.

Do you know if it is in any way possible to install a display with a higher resolution?
