Hi!

I've got a portable install of Trisquel Mini 5.0 (not 4.0) and it mostly seems okay. One little problem is that Trisquel Mini does not seem to recognize many USB drives when I plug them in. Is there some sort of driver issue in recognizing USB drives properly?

Thanks!

It probably has more to do with the file manager/shell than the version of Trisquel you're using. If you install Nautilus it will probably work as you expect it to.

On a more practical note, try running the file manager (pcmanfm) and from the menu: GO > My Computer (or) computer:/// in the address bar. I'm not totally certain but clicking on the drives should mount them. (otherwise try it as root.)

So, what happens when you plug one in?

Okay, I'll try that a bit later today and see what happens.

Thanks...

Actually, actually, either nothing happens at all, or else PCManFM opens up with a message asking if I want to open the (now mounted) USB device in PCManFM...

Thanks.

Have you checked dmesg to see if there is anything with one of those no-op drives? What model are those problematic drives?

I.e. type dmesg, plug in drive, wait for 10 secs and then type dmesg again. Is there something that wasn't there before the insert?

I don't get any error messages that I can see. At least not on the GUI. I have a LACIE USB HDD that gets no response and only my Sony and Kingston Flash drives seem to get a response.

I also tried opening PCManFM with computer:/// and those errant drives don't show up either.

Might it be a propitiatory thing?

Thanks!

Which model is the HDD exactly? What is your output of uname -m -p -i
