After updating Abrowser from version 10 (the last version prior to this update) to version 10.0.2 my search engine list was modified. I have experienced this on two installations and at least one other person confirmed this.
In all the cases the search engine list was modified to have only the following:
- Google
- Trisquel Packages
- Wikipedia
- Ask.com
I lost DuckDuckGo, DuckDuckGo SSL. Ask.com was added.
The previous update from version 9 to 10 did not modify the search engine list.
Restoring the default list does not bring back DuckDuckGo.
FWIW ask.com was re-added to my list but not google. Also, ddg and my custom engines were left alone. All other abrowser updates too have added back that ask.com as I've always promptly removed it. :)
Fixed in 10.0.2+build1*+5.0trisquel2.
For the record, this was the result of a change intended to _improve_ the DDG integration (as we just signed a partnership with them), but failed to apply.
What are the details of the partnership?
They offered us half of the profits generated by searches done with our browsers as long as DDG is kept as the default search engine. My idea is to publish this along with some other assorted news in a post this week, announcing the first 5.5 beta image (yet to come).
The bug was caused by me adding "t=trisquel&" to the url part of the search engine settings for abrowser. I thought it was completely trivial, but it turned out the & character needs to be inserted as & in some places, so I in fact broke the DDG xml file while trying to improve it.
Note to self: test all changes no matter how trivial they appear to be.
awesome. I haven't switched to DDG yet. I guess now I have a reason to.
I just changed all my duckduckgo urls to include t=trisquel and hope it helps you guys out! :-)
Great! I added "&t=trisquel" to my DDG home page URL. How to add it to DDG search bar?
About the ampersand position: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URI_scheme -- it has to be like "duckduckgo.com/?first=parameter&t=trisquel&other=param" or "duckduckgo.com/?t=trisquel&second=param&even=other".
