I've used GNU/Linux since Ubuntu 7.04. I've used many systems since then, but in 2012, I was browsing the system source code (of FreeBSD, at the time) and happened upon some code that was not free software. Eventually, I stumbled upon the GNU website and learned about fully free operating systems like Trisquel.
I've gone back and forth in my "observance" of free software principles over the years, but I've always had the goal of keeping proprietary software from controlling my life. These days, I use Fedora on an HP EliteBook 840 G2, though I plan to migrate back to Trisquel as soon as I can afford a little Wi-Fi card from Think Penguin.
Uniquely, I do not carry a mobile device. I do all my computing from my laptop only. For calling and texting, I use the service JMP.chat, and it's worked well since 2018. Living without a mobile device has had its challenges, but it's worked well, and I do not plan to get a mobile device any time soon, with how restrictive they are, and how they often require an Apple/Google account.
