Does Trisquel need more money?

• This is a quote from the IRC Channel from quidam on September 15th 2011 "(02:09:12 PM) quidam: we have about 30 members, and we need at least 100 just to be on budget" I have increased my member contribution and a few other people have joined as members though since then.

• The amount of donations is listed on the donations page. The amount given via members is unknown to the public at the moment because individual contributions aren't listed. For example I give 20 euros a month but someone who gives 5 euros gets the same benefit. I don't believe there is any publicly available data in the sense that you are looking for. Although I believe maybe a bi-annual financial report would help for sure.

• I think your protest of paypal is valid. I know someone else who wants to become a member but he is boycotting paypal. Maybe we could come up with some sort of offline donation. For example, if you live in a country that uses Euro's you could fill out a form and join as a member for 1 year and send the money via post.

• I was also thinking that if we are currently short on members for staying on budget maybe we could do a year-end membership drive or something.

I also want to donate (and to become a member) but don't really want to join PayPal to do it. A yearly donation via credit card would be great.

Here is some info on our actual finances:

Donations are very randomly distributed, They are all listed in the donations page. Membership appears to be stuck in around 30 members, some new ones come in, others go away. The current average fee is 8.9€, yielding 250€/month.

There is some money coming from the stores, but mostly symbolic (~100€/year).

The sum of all our funds is 3409€, and we started collecting about a year ago, making a 300€/month average including all sources. The plan is to leave the money in the bank -as a buffer- until the average is enough to cover a minimal wage salary for myself -I'm by now living off my savings account-.

I think we should start some sort of end-of-year fundraising campaign. I would like to see the first associate members working as ambassadors for the project.
BTW, we will soon be adding more benefits to associates, starting with a jabber account matching the @member.trisquel.info email alias.

What's the economic situation like? How much money is the project getting via
donations, the shop, members etc? How much expenses are there? Is this data
publicly available somewhere?

I would like to donate some money as a gesture for this wonderful operating
system. But I will not use paypal, which is a criminal organization. Do you
have any idea how much does it cost me to transfer you say 10 euros from
various countries? Does it depend on the country or the bank or both? Perhaps
some other factor? I wouldn't like to fatten the bankers too much in the
process... maybe it's time to start mining bitcoins or something...

My opinion is that if you are not located in Spain (where Trisquel is),
you should forget about wire transfers. It is a total rip-off. It
depends on taxes banks on both ends have, but still. You will have to
pay all fees since you are making a donation. EU member countries can
make transfers only with IBAN, which is considered less expensive. For
international/non-EU member transfer you will have to use SWIFT. I don't
have exact numbers, but for 10 € it is definitely a rip-off. Flattr.com
might be an option for you. They have a lot of options to add money to
accounts. Check the fees, though.
