In today's attempt to fix a broken instance of Etiona on my Lenovo T420, the TQ_9 thumb drive
is unable to access any TQ mirror, including France, Berekeley, Software Freedom Foundation, etc.
because of expired certificate and/or no Release file.

However, access from the same laptop running an installed instance of Etiona that is working OK,
these issues do not arise when changing the software source in the Control Center.

Must I create a fresh install of the startup disk from Startup Disk Creator ?

That issue is related to this,
https://letsencrypt.org/docs/dst-root-ca-x3-expiration-september-2021/

As soon as the new patches to the linux helper are build, there will be a complete update of all the etiona iso images.

That should fix the issue.
Cheers!

Approximately how long do you think we will have to wait for that to happen?

Well, that's a hard one, kernels take a long time to build (since commit to tarball, compilation, all the way to binaries), and if on top of that we are debugging issues that's the perfect receipt for delays.

So I guess it will take as long as it needs.

If it helps, since yesterday at the dev meeting (10/02/21) there has been a continuous work on the matter.

Cheers!

There is so much interesting information in the internet that some times I simply browse and not always thoroughly read what appears on the screen.
That must have happened when I wrote the question in my previous post in this topic.
Though I am still curious about what I asked, after thoroughly reading Ark74's explanation about http and https security at https://trisquel.info/en/forum/trisquel-90-mate-cannot-update#comment-160937.
I decided to try the advise that Ark74 gave to a user on Trisquel's IRC and that was rescued by Avron at https://trisquel.info/en/forum/trisquel-90-mate-cannot-update#comment-160895 and I have discovered that the answer to my question has lost some of its importance because entering these command in the console trisquel@trisquel:~$ sudo sed -i 's|https|http|g' /etc/apt/sources.list
trisquel@trisquel:~$ sudo apt install gnumeric geany mtpaint
and answering with a "y" to the following data and questionThe following NEW packages will be installed:

rendered a lot data among which were included the following:Setting up mtpaint (3.40-3) ...
Setting up geany (1.32-2) ...
Setting up gnumeric (1.12.35-1.1) ...
and solved the unexpected problem of installing these 3 programs that began on Oct 1st.

Thank you Ark74's for its solution and for your comments on security, Avron for copying Trisquel's IRC log and GeorgeK and amenex for starting their topics.
