If you can afford it, these people will sell you a complete system with Trisquel preinstalled: https://shop.libiquity.com/
Installing Trisquel is fairly easy, actually it is very really straightforward, but I am aware that "easy" is a relative concept and that we all have talent for something and anti-talent for many other things, so.. let's say "fairly easy".
If you have a PC with more than 2 gb of RAM download the 64 bit full ISO and burn a DVD with it.
If you have 2 gb of RAM burn a DVD with the 32 bit ISO.
If you have 1 gb of RAM burn a DVD with the Trisquel Mini 32 bit ISO.
Then, restart your computer with the Trisquel DVD and if it does not show you the Trisquel menu restart it again and on the very first seconds of the booting process press repeatedly "del", "canc" or one of the F* keys -"F2" usually AFAIK- in order to enter BIOS and set there in the boot order to boot first from CD.
When you finally eventually enter the menu select "Install Trisquel" and follow instructions. As long as your English is decent and you understand the language and know how to point and click you shall have no issue at all.
As far as security, any decent GNU/linux distro is I would say still 10 times more secure than any Windows installation (with or without EMET, antivirus, antispyware, antirootkit, anti*place here whatever*) so you just install Trisquel and just make sure to never install any proprietary malware (basically and potentially, any piece of proprietary software) and you are golden.
If the processor is 64-bit, just take the 64-bit ISO. x86-64 does not only allow to use more memory. It has other advantages such as twice more registers, 64-bit general-purpose registers that allow 64-bit integer arithmetics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64#Architectural_features
It is true that memory addresses being twice longer, they take more space. But programs usually do not fill up the memory with addresses. They fill it up with data.
Ty for all you shares!
I would like really to have someone locally in Calgary,Alberta to teach me trisquel main functions and how to use if its possible as well.
Any trisquel teacher from calgary or could you refer me anyone?
Thank you:)
Reading some of the documentation would teach you a lot: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/documentation
For instance, here is a list of the graphical applications that Trisquel 7 has by default (and links to manuals for some of them): https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/trisquel
Have you tried Trisquel yet (using a live system)?
Someone in this forum referred me to you.
I can help on a basic level. Do you need assistance?
Best regards,
Mel, in Calgary
Even though the UI is different (different "Start Menu" thingie, application appearance, preinstalled applications etc) Trisquel is actually quite similar to Ubuntu. The current verson is based on Ubuntu 14.04 so you might want to look at videos/articles about that (there are differences, mostly concerning not-so-free software Ubuntu makes use of and the interface, but the "internals", if you will (i.e. how a user account works, how file deletion works, programme installation and removal, and to an extent desktop themes, etc) are very similar.
If you have a relative that uses GNU+Linux (Red GHat, debian, Ubuntu, etc), then they might also be able to help quite a bit.
