My first conclusion was an emphatic no, due to the discussion in this thread,

http://trisquel.info/en/856-wifi-con-intel-3945

However, that was 2009, so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of any progress made in a libre replacement for the proprietary firmware.

It's picked up fine by the kernel, from dmesg,

[ 7.753528] iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection driver for Linux, in-tree:s
[ 7.753533] iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2010 Intel Corporation
...

with no future errors.

and in lspci,

03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)

NetworkManager "thinks" it sees it, but when I toggle the wireless switch on my laptop, NetworkManager toggles from "disconnected" to "device not ready" under the 'wireless' section.

Thanks for any help.

What version of Trisquel are you using? The answer may still be no. However the easiest way to test so would be to install the Trisquel 5.0 alpha and see if it works. The alpha contains the latest version of the linux-libre kernel so it would have the best chance at working. You could just download the live-CD you wouldn't have to reinstall.

Dagda uses the version 2.6.38 of linux-libre: http://packages.trisquel.info/dagda/linux-image
It is two versions before the current 3.0 version: http://www.fsfla.org/svnwiki/selibre/linux-libre/download/releases/3.0.4-libre/

I meant latest version available in Trisquel (should have clarified). 3.0.x is not a significant change from 2.6.x. If it doesn't work in the 5.0 Alpha it is unlikely that upgrading to the 3.0 kernel will help.
