I'm just curious:

Does anyone know specific security issues or other specific "bad" things about Zoom that I can use when people are like "why don't you wanna use Zoom"?

Prolly relevant to a lot of academics right now

Even if this were possible, we would eventually have to come clean and
confront the real issue of the licensing. But they won't care.

They claim to have removed this anti-feature but of course you have no way of actually verifying it.

I think the best answer is, "because there are better software choices available, especially for institutional users". For example, Big Blue Button. NZOSS is running an instance of BBB which you can try out using the Community Room channel:

Here's a video from Linus Tech Tips regarding some zero-day vulnerabilities in Zoom.

"This report examines the encryption that protects meetings in the popular Zoom teleconference app. We find that Zoom has “rolled their own” encryption scheme, which has significant weaknesses. In addition, we identify potential areas of concern in Zoom’s infrastructure, including observing the transmission of meeting encryption keys through China."

Because Zoom is proprietary software. See https://www.gnu.org/education, the video explains Zoom in only 6 minutes.
