This can be corrected by adding dpkg-dev libc6-dev to its dependency list and adding the line "ln -s /usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r|sed s/-generic//` /lib/modules/`uname -r`/source" (and also "apt-get install linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic" to ensure consistency between the kernel image & header version) to the package prerm script (package control data).

This also affect Trisquel 5.5 STS Brigantia and all the future releases, including 6.5 and 7.0 (upstream/Ubuntu bug #969733).

I think it's best to point to 6.0 as 5.5 will end-of-life soon. Also, I don't think installing OSS4 is critically important.

I changed Version back to 5.5 for the correctness of the report, because this also affects Brigantia users (end-of-life in 2013-04). OSS4 is a critically important feature because of the "jaw-dropping" audio quality improvements it provides (I can hardly imagine my daily life without using it, maybe the best feature of Trisquel), and also for the correctness of the report (see upstream bug report). Please, don't mess with this again.

Dude, you do realize that you can only target one version? Now it's more likely to be ignored than if it pointed to 6.0. But since this is fairly irrelevant, it's fine with me.

Sound quality does not matter. Most people will use the defaults year after year no matter how horrible they might be. And certainly if they're pretty good. You're the first person on Trisquel mentioning OSS at all. So, while it might not work, 99,75 percent of people will never trigger this bug. Ergo, it certainly is not critical.

This issue was already mentioned on the toutatis-development wiki page and Ruben knows about it.

For me, the sound quality matter because ALSA produces a very loud and distorted sound that is (in some cases) so bad, that it can damage speakers and is harmful to ears.

I'm not the first person mentioning OSS4 (note, that you should use the abbreviation OSS4 instead of just OSS, because sooner releases were proprietary, and OSS is often understanded as Open Source Software):
https://trisquel.info/wiki/installing-oss4-trisquel-40
https://trisquel.info/forum/oss4-dual-sound-cards
https://trisquel.info/forum/tv-tunner-has-no-audio

ALSA is one of the biggest failure in the history of free software development that is defective-by-design (like X.org for example). If you didn't already, you can read The Sorry State of Sound in Linux article.

You should at least try to use OSS4 a while yourself to understand what I'm talking about. I have a long-term experience with it so I can guide you if something doesn't work for you.
